Is your backup log starting to look a little… cluttered?

Do you ever wish you could just wave a magic wand and make those old backup records disappear?

Well, get ready to say hello to a cleaner, more organized backup experience!

We’re thrilled to announce some fantastic updates to Duplicator that are all about making your life easier and your website safer.

We’ve rolled out enhanced backup log management with one-click record cleanups and auto-deletion. Plus, we’ve bumped up our PHP and WordPress version requirements so your website can stay secure!

Let me show you all of the new features Duplicator has to offer.

Say Goodbye to Backup Log Clutter

Let’s be honest, nobody loves scrolling through endless lists of old backups. It’s time-consuming and, frankly, a bit of a headache.

That’s why we’ve introduced automated backup log cleanups!

You already know that you can set a maximum number of backups to keep in a specific storage location. For example, you might just want to keep 1 backup on your local server at a time.

One maximum backup in storage

Now, you can set rules to automatically delete older backup records.

In Settings » Storage » Storage Settings, you can automatically delete backup records once you exceed your maximum limit.

Once you hit that limit, Duplicator will automatically delete the oldest backup files (and the backup record!) to make room for new ones.

As I mentioned earlier, you might only want 1 backup on your local server. You can customize the backup records to delete When maximum is reached for Default Local Storage.

Automatically delete backup records when local maximum is reached

When you create a new backup and store it in Default Local, any old backup will be deleted and removed from your backup log.

Even if you use multiple backup locations, like cloud storage, you can still auto-delete backup records. Just choose the option to delete records When the backup archive is removed from all storages.

Automatically delete backup records when files are removed from all storage

Now, you might back up to Google Drive and the Default Local option. Let’s say both of these storage locations have a maximum of 1 backup in them. When you create a new backup (to both storage services), any old backups will be deleted.

However, you might set a higher limit on a specific storage location. If the backup record is deleted on only one location, you’ll still see the backup in Duplicator.

This gives you maximum flexibility in managing your backup history and storage.

One-Click Backup Record Cleanup

You can also choose to never automatically delete backup records, even if the actual backup files are removed due to storage limits.

In this case, you’ll see grayed-out backup records for backups that no longer exist in storage – a handy visual history!

Deleted backup files with records

Tired of those grayed-out records cluttering your log? We’ve added a Delete Backup Without Storages button under Tools » General.

With a single click, you can sweep away all those backup records that no longer have associated backup files, giving you a truly clean slate.

If you have any backup records that don’t have backup files before you update, these won’t be automatically deleted. To delete them, use the Delete Backup Records button on the Tools page.

Upgraded Minimum PHP and WordPress Versions

In addition to smarter log management, we’re also ensuring Duplicator is running on the best possible foundation.

To give you the best performance, security, and support, we’ve updated our minimum requirements to PHP 7.4+ and WordPress 5.3+.

We know change can take time, so don’t worry, you have plenty of time to upgrade! We will continue to provide bug fixes for older Duplicator versions up until March 1, 2026.

If you’re running older PHP (below 7.4) or WordPress (below 5.3), you can continue using Duplicator version 4.5.20.

However, to take advantage of new Duplicator features in this release (and the future!), we highly recommend upgrading your PHP and WordPress versions.

Think of it as a little nudge to keep your WordPress site in tip-top shape!

Using the latest versions of PHP and WordPress is crucial for security, speed, and accessing all the cool new features WordPress has to offer. Plus, it ensures Duplicator runs like a dream.

We previously supported PHP versions all the way back to 5.6.20, but it’s time to move forward with modern, secure technology.
