How do I read the Backup Build log?

The Backup Build Log provides detailed information about each step during the backup creation process in Duplicator. Here’s how to access and share it.

This article covers three ways to reach the log, plus how to share it safely with support.

Access Backup Build Log in Duplicator

There are several ways to access the backup log files:

Option 1: Download Diagnostics Data

  1. Go to Duplicator » Tools
  2. On the General tab, find the Diagnostic Data section and click Get Diagnostic Data.
Tools page UI showing General Tools with a prominent Get Diagnostic Data blue button to download a ZIP of diagnostic info; Backup Cleanup section lists three blue-outlined actions.

This will download the complete Diagnostic Data in a Zip File. The diagnostic data file includes the backup build logs for the recent backups. After the download completes, open the Zip file, and find the backup build file for the backup you need.

Option 2: View/ Read Backup Build Log

To just read the log, go to Duplicator » Tools » Duplicator Logs, then select the log file to read from the right sidebar.

You can copy the log’s content from the left area into a .txt file to use later, or share it with the Duplicator support.

Option 3: Download the Backup Build Log

Go to Duplicator Pro » Backups, then click the backup’s name to open its details screen (or click the + icon to expand the row first, then click View Details in the panel that appears):

On the General card, click Build Log to download it:

Sharing the backup build log file with support

If you need to share the backup build log file with the Duplicator support team in a new ticket, first download the file as previously described, then attach it to your ticket following the steps outlined in this guide. If you’re already communicating with the support team and would like to provide the backup build log file in an existing ticket, simply download the file and attach it to your next reply.

If the issue looks like a UI or AJAX problem rather than something in the build log itself, see Capturing Errors From Browsing Console instead.

Please DO NOT post any log data on public support forums such as WordPress.org unless all secure meta-data has been removed or masked, since it contains sensitive data.

If unsure what data to mask, don’t post it, use the support form instead. Here’s a guide on how to privately share logs with the support team.
