How to Share System Access with the Duplicator Support

To help the support team efficiently diagnose backup build or general plugin issues, you may be asked to provide temporary access to your WordPress admin and hosting environment. This guide explains what access is required, how to prepare it, and how to share it securely with the support team.

Required access information

To properly diagnose and troubleshoot your issue, the support team may need the following credentials:

Admin access credentials:

  • Admin URL:
  • Username:
  • Password:

FTP or Hosting Control Panel

  • FTP/Control Panel URL:
  • Username:
  • Password:

In most cases, WordPress admin and FTP access are sufficient. However, if requested, you may also need to provide:

cPanel access

  • cPanel URL:
  • cPanel username:
  • cPanel password:

Alternatively, you may provide access to your hosting account. This enables the support team to inspect files, databases, and server configurations for deeper investigation.

How to prepare the access Credentials

Creating a Temporary WordPress Admin Account

  • Login to your website admin dashboard
  • Go to Users, and Click add
  • Creating a Temporary WordPress Admin Account
  • Save the new user

Alternative Method:
If you prefer not to create or modify user accounts, you can install the plugin Temporary Login Without Password. This will generate a temporary login URL. Be sure the user role is set to Administrator.

Be sure the Role of the temporary login is “Administrator”.

Preparing the FTP or hosting cPanel access

FTP:

  • Log in to your hosting account and locate the FTP settings.
  • Create a new FTP account with access to your WordPress directory.
  • If you’re unsure how to do this, contact your hosting provider for assistance.

Ensure that the FTP account has read/write access to your WordPress files. A temporary FTP account is preferred over sharing control panel access.

cPanel access:

Hosting providers have different procedures for accessing cPanel. If needed, contact your provider to retrieve your cPanel credentials or grant access to your hosting account.

How to share access with the Duplicator support team

Sharing your credentials properly allows the support team to work quickly and securely. Once your access information is ready, follow the instructions in this guide to share it safely.

Important Notes:
Test your credentials: Before sharing the access information with is, make sure you can log in using the credentials yourself to avoid delays.

Use temporary accounts: Always create temporary admin-level WordPress, FTP, or cPanel accounts when possible.

Avoid sharing current passwords: If you must use an existing account, change the password temporarily and revert it after support is complete.

No IP blocking: Ensure that no IP blocking is enabled while we are working on your system. If there are any IP restrictions, those should be disabled temporarily while the support team is working on your system.
